John A. Fry, current President of Drexel University, has been elected US SQUASH-Chairman of the Board of Directors, replacing Peter R. Lasusa, Jr., who served the maximum allowable four year term. A squash player himself from the time he worked at the University of Pennsylvania, all three of his children are avid squash players. Fry has served on the Board since July 2010, and he has been a long-standing passionate supporter for the sport.
As President of Franklin & Marshall College, Fry chaired the NCAA Division III Presidents Council and also served for three years on the Executive Committee of the NCAA. At Drexel University, Fry was instrumental in bringing the U.S. Open to the school for a three year hosting agreement.
Athlete Representatives Elected
Gilly Lane and was elected this spring by the Athletes’ Advisory Council to serve as Athlete Representative and Alternate Athlete Representative Class 2 Directors of the Board of Directors respectively, effective July 1, 2013.
Lane replaces Richard Chin as the Athlete Representative to US Squash and the U.S. Olympic Committee. Michelle Quibell replaces alternate Meredeth Quick who, like Chin, served on the Board since 2005.
Tim Conway remains on the Board as a Class 2 Director, having been duly re-elected at the 2012 US Squash Meeting of the Members at the Annual Assembly last October.
2013 US Squash Annual Assembly: October 12
The 2013 Annual Assembly will be held in conjunction with the Delaware Investments U.S. Open Squash Championships on Saturday, October 12 from 10am-noon at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The annual election of members of the Board of Directors will take place during the official Annual Meeting of the Members, and the Board Chair then provides a report on the state of the association. The CEO also provides a managerial report, addressing issues of concern and importance to US Squash.
