U.S. SQUASH officially announced the recipients of the 2009-2010 U.S. SQUASH Scholar-Athlete Awards given to high school student athletes who achieved a Grade Point Average of 3.5 in school and earned a final season ranking for the 2009-2010 season.
Of the nearly 200 applicants, U.S. SQUASH recognized 178 scholar athletes who participated in the junior squash season during the 2009-2010 academic year. Recipients had to play in at least four junior tournaments in their age group, and have a minimum GPA of 3.5 acquired in school. Scholar-athletes came from public, private and boarding schools. In addition, eight student athletes who recently graduated from high school were given special acknowledgment for being scholar athletes in all four years of high school.
The Scholar-Athlete Award program has shown significant growth during its four years of existence—from 47 awards granted in the first year of 2006 to 178 recipients this season, demonstrating the success that young squash players are finding both on the squash court and in the classroom.
The application for the 2010-2011 Scholar Athlete Award will be available in May 2011.
