A strong New York team retained the Derek Sword Trophy by beating London 9-4 at the New York Athletic Club in October.

An enjoyable and entertaining encounter at number one string featured US national coach Chris Walker in action against his former England and Essex teammate Tony Hands.

Walker was too strong for his compatriot, who has clearly spent more time in the office building up his travel business than he has on court!

Also in action for London was Caroline Chaloner, wife of PSA president Mark who, like Walker, was competing in the Big Apple Doubles tournament at the NYAC. Caroline put up a great battle with US international Meredeth Quick.

This unique annual event in squash commemorates the former New York Athletic Club champion Derek Sword, who lost his life along with many fellow club members lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Derek was a former Scotland junior international teammate of Peter Nicol and Martin Heath and his parents, David and Irene, continue to support this memorable and emotional occasion that shows how sporting bonds can transcend all kinds of pain and loss.
