Raging Waters Drown Westchester Squash

Screen Shot 2014-12-02 at 4.02.05 PMIn what has been termed “a one in 500 year event,” Westchester County in New York was hammered by nearly eight inches of rain on April 15. Over 8,000 homes were flooded in Mamaroneck alone, cars were washed away and the streets were littered with furniture, carpets and mattresses that had been ruined by the water.

Also caught in the middle was Richard and Pat Millman’s Westchester Squash Club. With everything below the four-foot level inside the club destroyed, Millman is facing repair bills in the range of $50,000-70,000. “We’re hoping to get some insurance coverage,” said Millman, “but we’re not in a flood plain, so technically we aren’t covered.”

The worst of the damage was to the court floors, all four of which will need to be replaced. Millman’s hope is that they can get the club up and running again, but the cost to do so may be prohibitive if they don’t receive any help from insurance.
