New York City was the site for the second annual U.S. Under-23 Championships, held September 28-30. Twenty-four men and twelve women competed in the three-day event that took place at the Sports Club/LA and the Harvard Club. U23 National Team coaches Natalie Grainger and Martin Heath were on hand and both expressed excitement about the growth of this developmental program, designed to help bridge the gap between the elite junior and senior squash player. Lee Rosen, a senior captain on the University of Pennsylvania Squash team, showed why he is one of the top collegiate players in the country as he took the Men’s title with a 3-0 win over Yale Freshman John Fulham. Tufts senior Jake Gross took third place in a tight five-game match against high school sensation Chris Callis of Philadelphia. In the Women’s draw, 16-year-old Julie Cerullo, a U.S. Junior squad member out of the Heights Casino in Brooklyn, reached the finals from the sixth seeded position, stunning college players Britt Hebden of UPenn and Amanda Siebert of Princeton before her magical run ended in a four-game loss in the championship match to Woodinville, WA, native, and current UPenn sophomore, Kristen Lange.
