Open Squash Announces New Williamsburg Location at 55 Kent Avenue

Open Squash, the New York City nonprofit dedicated to making the sport of squash more accessible and affordable, today announced that it has signed a long-term lease for a third location in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Located at 55 Kent Avenue along the Williamsburg waterfront, the new facility will feature four state-of-the-art squash courts along with a café, locker rooms and access to a gym and training area. The space will also include a mezzanine location for MOTIVNY, an innovative physical therapy and personal training business.

The Williamsburg center will bring Open Squash’s full programming model to Brooklyn,
including clinics, camps, private lessons, round robins, leagues, and its junior academy, all delivered by the organization’s team of experienced, high-level coaches.

“We could not be more excited to bring squash—and our mission of making the sport more
affordable and accessible—to Williamsburg,” said David Ellen, Founder and Board Chair of
Open Squash. “To help make that happen, we will follow our same practice of providing
membership discounts to low-income families and full scholarships to select low-income
Juniors.”

In support of the growing squash community, MOTIVNY, a reputable NYC-based physical therapy and coaching business, will open its first Brooklyn location on the mezzanine floor. Services provided by MOTIVNY include one-on-one physical therapy, personal training, running and sports performance assessments. Additionally, a class studio with group sessions focused on mobility, kettlebells, and strength training will be offered daily.

“Brooklyn has been home to many of MOTIVNY’s clients, community, and staff for a number of years, and we’re excited to bring our coaching, education and events to an amazing growing community on the Williamsburg Waterfront.” said MOTIVNY Founder Luke Greenberg.

The facility is being designed by Bricault Design, the firm behind Open Squash’s widely-praised existing locations, and the squash courts will be built by Sunrise Courts, a U.S.-based company and partner of Open Squash, known for excellence in court construction.

“We’ve seen how powerful this model can be—combining great design, top-level coaching, and inclusive programming,” said Seth Frankle, Vice President of Operations at Open Squash. “Williamsburg is one of New York’s most dynamic neighborhoods, with a strong culture around fitness and racquet sports, and we think it’s an ideal place to introduce more people to the game.”

Open Squash currently serves more than 800 members across its existing locations in Manhattan. Construction is expected to take approximately one year, with a founding membership pre-sale launching roughly six months prior to opening.
