Fifteen Years Ago in Squash Magazine

December 1998 

World No.1 Michelle Martin, who won three World Open titles and six British Open titles, retired ten months later. Based at the Willoughby Squash Club in Sydney, Martin has been coaching ever since. She is married with two boys, ages twelve and eight. In 2012 Martin won the World Masters 45+ title and in 2013 she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia.

December 2003 

Colin McQuillan wrote about the 2003 World Men’s Team Championships in Vienna: on the cover Gregory Gaultier celebrates his historic 10-9 in the fifth win over Lee Beachill that put France in the final. Gaultier has gone on to become world No.1 and most recently won the 2013 U.S. Open; Beachill retired in 2009 and is now the chief operations officer for the PSA.

December 2008 

Richard Eaton covered the 2008 World Men’s Championships in Manchester, which Ramy Ashour won. Since then Ashour has become world No.1, went undefeated for a year and a half and captured his second world championship in 2012.
