At the conclusion of the U.S. SQUASH Junior Gold Championships, the Association presented two of its most prestigious awards to outstanding members of the junior squash community.

The DeRoy Sportsmanship Award, presented annually to a ranked male and female junior player in their senior year who has risen above the expectations of sportsmanship through superb tact and graciousness both on and off the court, was given to Haley Mendez of Brooklyn (NY) and Andrew McGuiness of Merion Station (PA). Mendez, currently ranked No. 2 in the GU19, will be a member of the 2011 U.S Junior Women’s team competing at the World Championships this summer in Cambridge (MA) and will attend Harvard University in the fall. McGuiness, who was the captain of the Episcopal Academy (PA) squad that won its third straight U.S. High School Division 1 Team Squash Championship this past February, will attend the Naval Academy.

In its fourth year of recognition, the William T. Ketcham Award, acknowledging one female and one male ranked junior squash competitor who have demonstrated tremendous dedication and growth throughout the season, honored Sabrina Sobhy of Sea Cliff (NY) and Danial Saleem from Alpharetta (GA) for their on-court improvement.
