USOC Awards for Three Coaches

Screen Shot 2014-10-02 at 4.57.18 PMU.S. SQUASH has honored Martin Heath, Renato Paiva and Pat Yuen with the prestigious U.S. Olympic Committee Coach of the Year Award. Heath, Paiva and Yuen are all automatically nominated to be selected as the USOC Coach of the Year among all National Sports Governing Bodies.

Martin Heath has been the head coach for the U.S. Junior Men’s team since 2007, and the head squash coach at the University of Rochester for the past four seasons, taking them from the 28th ranked team in the country to top-4 finishes in the past three seasons. The six-time Scottish national champ spent six years in the World’s top-10 rankings, reaching a high of No. 4 in October of 1999.

Renato Paiva has been the executive director of the Access Youth Academy, a successful urban squash program, in San Diego, California. He coached the first urban squash team to compete in the U.S. High School Championships this past February. Originally from Brazil, Renato was a Brazilian Junior Champion and a top junior in South America. He represented his home country on the national team as its captain.

Pat Yuen has been a volunteer coach at Eastern Middle School and Greenwich High School in Connecticut. Eastern Middle School has participated in the U.S. Middle School Championships for the past three years and, this year, Pat assisted with the Greenwich High School team that participated in the U.S. High School Championships. Pat also assisted these programs by applying for and being awarded junior development grants from U.S. SQUASH. Pat has also earned his Level 1 and Level 2 U.S. SQUASH coaching certification.
