Scharff and Grainger Win Mixed Doubles

Steve Scharff (CT) continued his winning ways in doubles, teaming with Natalie Grainger (CT) to capture the Open Division at the 2010 U.S. Mixed Doubles Squash Championships in Philadelphia (PA). Scharff, the current head squash professional at the Round Hill Club in Greenwich (CT), also took the top prize at the U.S. Doubles Championships with partner Dylan Patterson in Baltimore (MD). Grainger, the reigning U.S. Women’s singles champion, and Scharff defeated Emily Lungstrum (NY) and Ryan O’Connell (NY) in the mixed final, 17-15, 15-6, 15-11.

To reach the final, Natalie Grainger and Steve Scharf (above, holding cups) had to overcome a 2-1 deficit before winning the fifth game of their semifinal, 17-15, over Narelle Krizek and Manek Mathur. In the 40+, champions Kathryn and Alan Grant (above, R) held Michael Pierce and Demer Holleran in check to win the final 3-0. While in the 50+, Molly Pierce and James Heldring (in photo below, L-R) held off Andrew Nehrbas and Joyce Davenport in a five-game nailbiter.
