Egan and Fast win Deroy Sportsmanship Award

The James DeRoy Sportsmanship Award is presented each year at the US Junior Closed Championships (Gold). The award is given annually to one male and one female ranked junior U.S. SQUASH member who has best represented and demonstrated the principles of fair play and sportsmanship on and off the court during their junior squash career. This year’s recipients are Ash Egan of Haverford (PA) and Lillian Fast of Greenwich (CT).

Egan, a senior at the Haverford School who will be attending Princeton University in the fall, is a member of the Junior national team that will be representing the US at the Jr. World Championships in Ecuador this summer. Fast, the captain of this year’s Greenwich Academy Girls team that won their third straight Division 1 title at the U.S. High School Team Championships in February, will be matriculating at Yale University.

This year was also the second in which the William T. Ketcham Award has been presented. The Ketcham Award is presented to one male and one female ranked junior squash player who has improved his or her game substantially over the past squash season. This year’s recipients of the Ketcham Cup are Maria Elena Ubina of Stamford (CT) and Faraz Khan of Florham Park (NJ).
