Interns Make Impact at U.S. SQUASH

Though the summer months are traditionally the off season for squash, the U.S. SQUASH office uses that time to prepare for what is sure to be a busy season ahead. Two interns, Clare Berner, heading into her sophomore year at Cornell University and Scott Leighton, an incoming senior at Tufts University, took on every challenge thrown at them and deftly handled whatever tasks were assigned.

Clare got her feet wet in journalism by penning interviews with the pros for Squash Magazine’s monthly SPA segment. Her biggest contribution, however, was the launching and maintaining of U.S. SQUASH’s first ever Facebook page. At the time of this article over 1,000 fans have befriended U.S. SQUASH thanks to Clare’s efforts.

Leighton, before entering his final year at Tufts, served his second summer at U.S SQUASH, picking up right where he had left off the previous year. Scott once again spearheaded the U.S. SQUASH Scholar Athlete Award along with doing extensive writing for Squash Magazine. Scott’s communication efforts matched Clare’s by setting up and maintaining the blog site for this summer’s Junior Women’s Team while also maintaining the Association’s Twitter page. He continued his internship by going to Chicago and becoming an integral part of the U.S. Open staff.

U.S. SQUASH would like to thank both Scott and Clare for their exhaustive efforts for the association. We wish them great success in their future endeavors on and off the courts.
