Light and Powerful Head 115 CT™

Screen Shot 2014-11-18 at 9.55.24 AMThe evolution of the squash racquet has taken a new shape for Head which is introducing the 115 CT™—as in Corrugated Technology™. Head describes the stick as having “corrugated rails incorporated into the shaft of the racquet creating up to 12% more stiffness than a conventional racquet design. The Corrugated Technology™ provides superior torsion, bending and handling for optimum power in every shot.”

Okay, so here’s the deal: the shaft of the 115 CT has grooves in it, and it is tapered from the top of the grip to the base of the head. The 115 CT is in fact extremely stiff which provides much needed power in a very light racquet (142g strung). Being head heavy also adds to the power of the frame (with the strings, half of the weight is in the upper 12 inches of the head). However, because the racquet itself is light, the maneuverability of it is not compromised by the head heavy balance.

The open string pattern with 12 mains and 17 crosses provides plenty of bite (thus control) on the ball while, at the same time, allowing the strings to “trampoline” and impart more power to the ball.

Head has continued its trend of utilizing a more traditional handle  that is not squared-off (unlike their racquets in the past) which we like. The “girth” of the handle is slightly “fatter” than many racquets so those with small hands may want to pay attention to that.

The 115 CT™ is responsive, light, and powerful. As with most light racquets, it may not be the best choice for players with extremely powerful swings simply because the lightness of the 115 CT™ could result in over-swinging. But it has excellent feel and really doesn’t require a powerful swing to get the ball moving with plenty of pace.
