Ashaway’s latest addition to their line of AMPS (translation: Anatomic Multi-Performance System) is the new 512 that “incorporates a new Anatomic Stability and Cushioning System.” According to Ashaway, the 512 provides “increased cushioning and rebound in the toe, higher shock absorption in the heel, and greater stability support overall.”

The quick and dirty is that the 512 is very comfortable (though snug when wearing two pairs of socks, so you’ll have to wear them a few times to stretch them out a bit) and light. Traction is good once the treads have been scuffed-up a bit, which is true with most shoes. As with all Ashaway shoes, the area around the ankle is very low cut. But, the lacing system and high heel support cinch these puppies up to your foot very well.

Ashaway’s claims about reducing shock is right on. Your feet will appreciate the cushioning provided by the “anatomically shaped mid-sole rebound insert, and Anatomic Stability Device in the heel, and the specially designed dual layer inboard and triple layer removable insoles.” To you and me, that means when you’re slamming your feet on the floor for an hour every day, your feet will be thanking you the next morning for reducing their wear and tear. It would be sort of like putting a muzzle on your dogs when they start barking. And that’s always a good thing.
