England’s National Squash Center in Manchester has a new Head Squash Coach—Vicky Botwright. And she will finish off her 10-year career in Manchester during the World Open in October.
A fixture on the World Tour since 1998, Botwright turned heads during the 2001 British Open when she posed for a few, well, flattering shots sporting a thong. Despite the controversy that ensued, Botwright did most of her talking on the court where she reached a high of World No. 5 in December 2005. Botwright also reached 14 WISPA Tour finals, winning four.
Away from the Tour, Botwright represented England in five successful European Team Championships, losing just one match in the process, and she led England to the 2006 World Team Championship in Edmonton, Canada. Botwright was also a double medalist in the 2006 Commonwealth Games with a silver in the Mixed Doubles and a bronze in the Women’s Doubles.
“But these facts only tell part of the story when it comes to Vicky Botwright,” said WISPA Chief Executive Andrew Shelley. “The English star has been a wonderful asset for women’s squash. Popular on court, the same off of it—and one of the names that promoters and spectators want to see in their draws. Manchester have chosen well.”
