Facility Update SL Green StreetSquash Center almost finished

Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 4.31.30 PMAfter nearly four years of planning and construction, the groundbreaking SL Green StreetSquash Center in the heart of Harlem is expected to open in August.

Originally conceived as an eight-court facility for New York City’s first Urban Squash program, the role that will be played has expanded tremendously. Because the elementary schools in the area have no gymnasiums, StreetSquash has worked out a plan to offer squash as physical education classes for several schools. So instead of 250 kids in the Urban Program, StreetSquash will host an additional 750/week for PE. In addition, Columbia University will also rent the courts at night after becoming the last Ivy League school to have a varsity squash team.

According to Executive Director George Polsky, the StreetSquash program will move into its new digs as soon as it opens. Stay tuned.
