David Barrett was awarded the 2007 U.S. Squash Presidents Cup, the Association’s most prestigious award, for his contributions to the game during a Saturday evening ceremony at the 2008 North Sound Capital North American Doubles and Harrow Greenwich Opens in Greenwich, CT.  Barrett, currently the Chairperson of the U.S. Squash Nominating Committee, has been involved in all aspects of the game since his days as a highly decorated undergrad player at Yale University. Named team captain in his senior year for the Eli’s, he was a two-time All –American as well as a two-time First Team All–Ivy selection. He remains active in the Yale Squash program in his capacity as Secretary on the Board of Directors for Skillman Associates.  He is also a founding board member of Squash Haven, New Haven’s urban youth enrichment squash and education program.

Barrett has been an integral part of the recent developments at U.S. Squash, first as Junior Committee Chairperson on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and then serving as Vice-Chairman of the Board. In his role while leading the Junior Committee, Barrett had the idea of linking the popular North American Open with the fledgling Junior Development Endowment Fund, turning the event into a fundraising venture for the Association. Five years later, the now combined men’s pro doubles and women’s pro singles event nets nearly $50,000 annually for the Junior Development Endowment Fund which tops $1 million. The Junior Fund distributes the majority of the income from the fund via grants to programs or organizations providing squash instruction to junior players in an organized, structured manner, with the primary focus of providing affordable access to squash to those who wish to learn. The Junior Fund is managed by the U.S. Squash Investment Committee.
